Waterloo Dental & Orthodontics, 223 Waterloo Road, London SE1 8XH · 020 7928 5844 · Last updated October 2026

These terms apply to our Waterloo Essentials and Smile for Life practice plans. By joining, you agree to them.

Joining a student plan (Student Smile or Student Essentials)? Your plan has its own terms: read the Student Smile terms here.

1. Who can join

The plans are for adults (18 and over) registered as patients at Waterloo Dental & Orthodontics. Plan benefits are personal to you and cannot be transferred. Joining a plan is optional and is a private arrangement; if you are eligible for NHS dental care, you can choose to stay with NHS treatment instead. While you are a member, your check-ups, hygiene visits and any treatment are provided privately. If you cancel your plan and wish to return to NHS care, this will be subject to NHS availability at the practice at the time.

2. What each plan includes

Waterloo Essentials – £10.95 per month: 1 check-up (including mouth cancer screening), 1 hygiene visit, 1 free emergency examination (when clinically needed) and 1 free specialist consultation (when clinically needed, normally £75) per membership year, and 10% off private treatment fees, excluding aligners, implants and veneers.

Smile for Life – £19.95 per month: 2 check-ups (including mouth cancer screening) and 2 hygiene visits per membership year, free emergency examinations and free specialist consultations when clinically needed, and 10% off private treatment fees.

On either plan, additional check-ups are charged at £30 and additional hygiene visits at £67.50. A membership year runs for 12 months from the date of your first payment. Unused benefits do not roll over and have no cash value.

3. When you can use your check-ups and hygiene visits

Waterloo Essentials: your check-up is at the start of your membership, and your hygiene visit is available from 6 months.

Smile for Life: your first check-up is at the start of your membership, your hygiene visits are at 3 months and 9 months, and your second check-up is at 6 months.

Timings are counted from the date of your first payment, and your monthly payments must be up to date.

4. Emergency examinations and specialist consultations

Waterloo Essentials members receive 1 free emergency examination and 1 free specialist consultation per membership year when clinically needed; further emergency examinations and specialist consultations are charged at our standard fees. For Smile for Life members, emergency examinations and specialist consultations are provided free when clinically needed. Clinical need is assessed by our clinical team. Specialist consultations included in the plans are in-clinic consultations at Waterloo Dental & Orthodontics only, and must be clinically needed. An emergency examination or specialist consultation covers the assessment and diagnosis only. It does not include any treatment (for example fillings, extractions, root canal treatment or temporary repairs), which is charged separately at our private fees, with your member discount applied.

5. Your treatment discount

Your member discount (10% on both plans) applies to our private treatment fees at Waterloo Dental & Orthodontics while your plan is active and your payments are up to date. On Waterloo Essentials, the discount does not apply to aligners, implants or veneers. It cannot be combined with other offers and does not apply to NHS treatment. Treatment fees vary depending on what is clinically needed – for example, the price of a filling depends on its size, the number of tooth surfaces involved and the material used. Any treatment prices or savings shown on our website, in emails or in other marketing are examples based on our starting (“from”) prices. Before any treatment, your dentist will give you a treatment plan with the cost, and your member discount will be applied to that cost.

6. Payments

Payments are taken monthly by card through our secure payment provider, Stripe. If you book a “Become a member” appointment online, your first monthly payment is taken when you book and your ongoing monthly payments start one month later. If a payment fails, we will contact you, and your plan benefits will be paused until the payment is made.

7. Minimum term and cancelling

Each plan has a 12-month minimum term. After the minimum term you can cancel at any time by giving us 30 days’ notice by phone or email.

If you cancel before the end of your minimum term, you will be asked to pay the difference between the plan payments you have made and our full, non-discounted standard fees for the check-ups, hygiene visits, examinations and consultations you have received: £50 per check-up, £75 per hygiene visit, £75 per emergency examination and £75 per specialist consultation. By joining, you authorise us to charge the card you used to join for any amount due under this section, after we have told you the amount.

8. Your 14-day right to cancel

You can cancel within 14 days of joining for any reason. If you have already used any plan benefits in that time, we will deduct our standard fees for them from your refund.

9. Appointments

Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or move an appointment. Missed appointments or late cancellations may incur a £35 fee.

10. This is not insurance

Your plan covers only the services listed above, provided at Waterloo Dental & Orthodontics. It is not dental insurance and does not cover treatment at other practices.

11. Changes to these terms

We may change plan prices or benefits after your minimum term ends. We will give you at least 30 days’ notice of any change, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
