Dental emergencies we can help with

If something is hurting or has broken, it is better to get it checked quickly. These are the problems patients most often call us about.

Severe toothache

Throbbing pain, sensitivity to hot and cold or pain when you bite can point to decay or an infected nerve that needs treatment.

Swelling or abscess

Swelling of the gum or face can be a sign of infection. Call us promptly. If swelling affects your breathing or swallowing, call 999 or go to A&E.

Chipped or broken tooth

A sharp or broken edge can often be smoothed or rebuilt with a tooth-coloured filling. Larger breaks may need a crown.

Lost filling or crown

Keep a lost crown safe and bring it with you. We will check the tooth underneath and, where possible, refit it or protect the tooth.

Knocked-out adult tooth

Hold it by the crown, not the root, keep it moist in milk and call us straight away. Time matters with this kind of injury.

Broken brace or poking wire

Our practice is led by specialist orthodontist Dr Sarah Sadek, so we can usually repair a broken bracket or trim a poking wire.

Wisdom tooth pain

Painful, swollen gums around a wisdom tooth are common. We will find the cause and talk you through the options, including removal if needed.

Bleeding or painful gums

Sudden pain or bleeding from the gums can be a sign of infection or gum disease that needs prompt care.

Emergency dentist Waterloo: common questions

Can I get a same-day emergency appointment?

Yes. We offer same-day emergency appointments on weekdays. Call 020 7928 5844 as early as possible from 9am, or book through WhatsApp, and we will offer you the earliest slot.

How much does an emergency dentist cost in Waterloo?

An emergency exam costs £75. If you need further treatment, such as a filling, extraction or root canal treatment, your dentist explains the options and gives you a written quote first.

I'm not registered with you. Can I still be seen?

Yes. You don't need to be an existing patient to book an emergency appointment. Just call or message us and we will book you in.

Do you see NHS emergency patients?

We care for both NHS and private patients. If you are an NHS patient with us, ask whether your urgent treatment can be provided under NHS charges. Private emergency exams are £75.

Can you fix a broken brace or poking wire?

Usually, yes. Our orthodontic care is led by specialist orthodontist Dr Sarah Sadek, and we can often repair a broken bracket, trim a poking wire or refit a loose retainer.

Will it hurt?

We use local anaesthetic where needed and our team is used to caring for nervous patients. Tell us if you feel anxious and we will go at your pace.

What should I bring?

Bring a list of any medicines you take and, if a crown or part of a tooth has come off, bring it with you in a clean container.

What if I need help when you're closed?

Call NHS 111 for urgent advice out of hours. If you have swelling that affects your breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding or a serious injury, call 999 or go to A&E.

Is a knocked-out tooth an emergency?

Yes. Pick it up by the crown, rinse briefly if dirty, keep it moist in milk and contact us immediately. The sooner you are seen, the better the chance of saving it.

Can I spread the cost of treatment?

For larger treatment such as crowns or root canal treatment, you can spread the cost with 0% finance through Tabeo, subject to status.
